It is important for me to remember my goals of Fitness and More Fabulous By Fifty. I must keep it as a priority and continue to work on my goal. And quite honestly it is not just by when I turn 50.... but a lifestyle change to help me be healthier and happier.
It was hard for me to focus and stay focused on the goal this week. I steered away from my protein shakes and ate more solids - healthy solids. :) Unfortunately - I must have not segwayed into it too well as I had a negative reaction. On Monday, I ate more fruit, veggies and meat - I continued to stay away from carbs (breads, pasta's, etc) and white sugar. I was very sluggish on Monday and Tuesday. I didn't want to get out of bed or to the gym and it seemed that my body wanted to sleep. I wasn't depressed or sad, just my body was tired. So I tried to rest.... By Wednesday, my stomach was achy, bloated and I was not feeling the best. Wednesdays I have a Salsa Rueda class and I even had to leave early due to just not feeling well.
I got home and realized that I had not had a bowl movement in a couple of days - evidently drastically changing my diet and not going to the gym helped caused this uncomfortable experience. Once I realized that that could be why I was not feeling well - I made myself a double beet juice drink/cocktail and within a couple of hours was very much relieved!
I went the to gym this week 3 times and had 3 Jui Jitsu Grappling sessions (Sunday, Thursday, Saturday) - so I had plenty of cardio. I am getting stronger with my grappling, but definitely need more direction on technique and strength training. Trainer Kent G. and I will be adding strength training in with our grappling training - staring today. I am excited - I am still enjoying this training and exercise - the workouts are GREAT. Though I have been trying to stay with my protein drinks as of Friday, Coach Kent encouraged me to actually eat (vs drink) my protein. He stated that my muscles need more protein as they are developing, more than the shakes give. He encouraged me to even eat last night when I got home (after 10 p.m.) to have some protein, even if it was opening up a can of tuna. The thought of canned tuna disgusted me so.... I went to Pollo Loco (my friend Lou's favorite restaurant - lol) and got an under 500 calorie salad with Chicken and Avocado. It was good - I picked out the chicken and avocado and miraculously.... went to bed rather quickly once I got in and settled.
What I learned most about both experiences, was this - change is good, however if I am going to change my eating patterns or work outs, I must drink plenty of water and really pay attention to my body, it's functions and my pains so that I can consciously make decisions that are the healthiest for me and have the best overall benefits!! I also need to do more research about eating proteins vs drinking them; research on the proper diet for training, losing weight while building muscle and finally research on eating after 7 p.m. I was bulimic and anorexic back when I was in my mid-teens and I know I have food issues (all of my life) so quite honestly.... I am too compulsive when my head is in the game, therefore I will definitely get to researching immediately so that I can make better decisions.
I love all these wonderful lessons and self realizations that are coming out during my journey!
Have a great Sunday everyone!
Carmen
